This policy applies to the Participa · Información Local portal (participacion.informacionlocal.es). For any query about your data, write to us at participa@informacionlocal.es.

What data we process

  • Your name, email address and municipality, provided when submitting a contribution or logging into your account.
  • The content of your contributions and, if you choose to add them, photos, documents and location.
  • Your endorsements of contributions and your votes in consultations.
  • Minimal technical data (IP address, browser, date and time) needed to run the service and prevent misuse.
  • If you request an institutional account: your position, organisation and professional contact details.

We do not request or process special categories of data. If you include third-party data in a contribution, you must have their authorisation.

What we use it for and the legal basis

  • Managing your contribution: forwarding it to the relevant institution, following it up and publishing the response. Legal basis: your consent when submitting it.
  • Communicating with you: notifying you by email of every status change and of the response received, and sending you the login link for your account. Legal basis: performance of the service you request.
  • Publishing your contribution with the visibility you choose (public with your name, public without your name, or private). Legal basis: your consent, which you can change from My Account.
  • Journalistic work: Información Local may cite public contributions and responses in its news content. Legal basis: legitimate interest in exercising freedom of information.
  • Newsletter: only if you activate it in My Account. Legal basis: consent, revocable at any time.
  • Security: preventing abusive use, impersonation and automated submissions. Legal basis: legitimate interest.

You must be at least 14 years old to use the portal.

Who we share your data with

  • Institutions: the institution to which your contribution is addressed receives the text and, in the case of private contributions or when essential to process it, your name and email address. Institutions are responsible for their own data processing.
  • Technology providers acting as data processors: hosting, email delivery and machine translation. Artificial intelligence providers only receive the text of the contribution, never your contact details. Some may be located outside the European Economic Area; in such cases, the safeguards set out in the General Data Protection Regulation apply (standard contractual clauses or adequacy decisions).
  • Authorities, where there is a legal obligation to do so.

We do not sell or transfer your data to third parties for commercial purposes.

How long we keep it

For as long as you maintain your account and, thereafter, for as long as necessary to meet legal obligations. If you delete your account, your name and email address are anonymised and your contributions are retained with the visibility you chose, as part of the portal's public archive. Login links expire within a few minutes, and technical data is kept for a maximum of twelve months.

Your rights

You can access, rectify, download and delete your data from My Account. You can also exercise your rights of access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction and portability, and withdraw your consent, by writing to participa@informacionlocal.es or by post to the address shown above, enclosing a document that allows us to identify you. We will respond within one month. If you believe we have not addressed your rights appropriately, you can lodge a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (Agencia Española de Protección de Datos) at www.aepd.es.

Cookies

The portal only uses essential technical cookies: one for your session, one that remembers your language preference, and one that protects forms against fraudulent submissions. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, so your consent is not required.

Changes to this policy

We will publish any changes here and, if they substantially affect your rights, we will notify you by email. Last updated: September 2026.
